Depending what country you’re in, the helmet may be the only mandatory protection element on a motorcycle. If the helmet was not mandatory sadly it would not be used as much as it is today.
Any fall, however small, can have extremely unpleasant consequences for any motorcyclist. Falling with a motorcycle is not a satisfactory experience, even if it is equipped up to the eyebrows, but exactly the same fall without adequate protection multiplies the negative consequences.
Technical clothing exists for a very simple reason that is to protect the most vulnerable parts of the human body. We are soft and tender beings and the soil and obstacles are usually quite hard, they are rough and they produce abrasions.
Apart from the helmet, which is obvious, motorcycle jackets and pants protect the body parts that usually take the most serious impacts to the ground. The elbows, shoulders, knees and hips are what first touch the ground in a fall and become extremely vulnerable parts that need adequate protection.
Am sure is cool but half helmets while on a Harley ? |
The same goes for gloves, another key piece that is especially absent in Malaysia. It really hot and we , riders never want to be more uncomfortable. Imagine that you are going at 40 km/h, now imagine your bare hand skimming against the asphalt. But you do not have to fall to cause damage to your hand, just imagine that one of those small stones that form the asphalt or that fall from a truck hits one of your knuckles without protection more than 100 km/h.
Always protect yourself.
chances are that something like this can happen to you. |
